Contribution Rules

Thank you for supporting the campaign.

Contributions to municipal election campaigns in Ontario are regulated by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Please review the following requirements before making a contribution.

Who may contribute

Contributions may be made only by individuals who are normally residents of Ontario. Corporations, trade unions, associations, organizations and groups are not permitted to contribute to a candidate's campaign.

Contribution limits

An individual may contribute a maximum of $1,200 to this campaign.

An individual may contribute a maximum of $5,000 in total to candidates running for offices on the same municipal council.

These limits include monetary contributions as well as the value of any goods or services contributed to the campaign.

Your own funds

Your contribution must come from your own funds. Contributions may not be pooled, provided on behalf of another person, or reimbursed by another person, business or organization.

If a contribution is made from a joint account, it must be clear which individual is making the contribution.

Payment requirements

Cash contributions may not exceed $25.

Contributions greater than $25 must be made by cheque, money order, or another payment method that clearly identifies the source of the funds.

Public disclosure

If your total contributions to this campaign exceed $100, your name, address and contribution information will be reported in the campaign's financial statement. Campaign financial statements are public records.

Contribution receipts

A campaign contribution receipt will be issued for every contribution received.

Campaign contribution receipts are not tax receipts, and municipal campaign contributions cannot be claimed as federal or provincial income tax deductions or credits.

By submitting this contribution, I confirm that:

  • I am an individual who is normally a resident of Ontario;

  • I am contributing my own funds;

  • I am not contributing on behalf of another individual, corporation, organization or group;

  • my contribution complies with the applicable $1,200 individual contribution limit and $5,000 aggregate contribution limit; and

  • the information I have provided is accurate.
